Virtual Camera Setup
Boom’s virtual camera functions as a software-based webcam alternative that requires no physical hardware. Once installed as a system extension, it enables users to apply camera effects, overlays, and customizations such as logos, name tags, and GIFs during video calls.
Installation Steps
Section titled “Installation Steps”Initial Launch
Section titled “Initial Launch”- Open Boom.app from your Applications folder
- Address the internet download warning by clicking “Open” and sign in with your Google account
Permission and Extension Installation
Section titled “Permission and Extension Installation”- Grant camera access and approve the Boom camera extension installation
- Rather than clicking “OK,” select “Open System Settings” to access Privacy & Security settings
macOS 14 Sonoma
Section titled “macOS 14 Sonoma”- Locate and click the “Allow” button (may require scrolling to find)
macOS 15 Sequoia
Section titled “macOS 15 Sequoia”- Navigate to General, then scroll to “Login Items & Extensions”
- Find “Camera Extensions,” click the information icon, enable the toggle, and select “Done”
Final Setup
Section titled “Final Setup”- Choose your video input from the dropdown menu to complete installation
